ABC of life ... J: J.O.Y.
What is joy?
a laugh that cracks your ribs
a couple of jumps on a new mattress
getting what you longed for at last
or gazing at the sunset with folks you … love?
I went on the quest for joy a long while ago
I tried to define it, put it in a bottle and stack it up
on the high shelf of my laboratory… of Human Emotions.
But I failed and with my failure came the loss of my own sense of joy
and I started wandering through the streets of life with an unanimated face.
It’s later on that I realized it was because I tried to contain the uncontainable.
Joy, the unsettle-able, flew from my grip before I got to grab it
It was too bright and loud and swift to be put down or molded
It’s the most untamable, irrational of all
and it has every right to be.
It lives between the crooks of random moments, little or big
and when you’re there and you open yourself to it
it sneaks into your ribs and expands them
in deep satisfaction of what your senses are experiencing
forcing your brain to register every little detail of the venture
so that you can retrieve it later on when the skies are grayer and your ribs are tighter.
You will want to dwell on it
but letting it be is the best you can do,
if it makes you want to clap hands or widen your smile or jump in circles
let it guide you, give it permission to shine within you
if you’re too knotty and tangled, Joy will unfriend and leave you
it is rather attracted to simplicity, to the will of good living, to purity of intentions.
When it finds all of this in you, it will hardly ever leave your side
until you become the embodiment of joy for those around you
and the shining memory for their gray skies and tightened ribs and knotted minds.
