Rekindling our bond with the Quran

It’s a maze.

this world,
this life is a maze where it’s easy to lose hope, easy to get lost, and easy to lose sight of its many gifts and blessings.

Without an anchor to keep us grounded nor a torchbearer to find guidance in, humans can easily go adrift and fall flat in the pit of despair, emptiness and an endless turmoil of dilemmas and unanswered questions… as we are all witnessing in this day and age.

But where are we to find the lighting guide that will open our eyes to the mercy we’ve been showered with, to draw us lines between what’s a good fit for us and what’s toxic for our species?

Or rather the question should be:  what would be a better guide than the one written by the One who created our species and every other species on this Earth and within this Universe ….and beyond?
Who is more knowledgeable about a creation than the One who created it?

“… And We have sent down to you the Book (the Quran), as an exposition of everything, a guidance, a mercy, and glad tidings for those who have submitted themselves (to Allah as Muslims).

“… And We have sent down to you the Book (the Quran), as an exposition of everything, a guidance, a mercy, and glad tidings for those who have submitted themselves (to Allah as Muslims).

What is the Quran?

Now, with every creation comes a manual guide: a set of instructions, situations, warnings, options and tricks that would able the creation to function in the most optimal conditions that suit its nature, its needs and the purpose it was created for.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what Quran is: a manual guide written by the Creator for the creation to know their purpose and serve it in the way that is most beneficial and merciful to them, their nature, their needs and their well-being.

Its purpose?

This book has basically 2 purposes: repair our life and repair our after-life ...

What does it comprehend?

.... and to do that (serve that purpose) it firstly comprehends instructions in form of inspiring stories, orders, advice and wisdom etc ...

“And verily, you (O Muhammad (S)) are receiving the Quran from the One, All-Wise, All-Knowing”

“And verily, you (O Muhammad (S)) are receiving the Quran from the One, All-Wise, All-Knowing”

And because Allah is the one who made these instructions, we need to know Him; and that’s why the Quran also comprehends characteristics of its Author throughout which we get to know Him and become aware of His endless Mercy, Power and Wisdom.

We learn about Allah in the Quran through His description to Himself, through His actions, through His conversations with prophets and angels …. and also in how the instructions that He gave us speak for Him.

Finally, being as human as we are, in order to follow those instructions and that wisdom, the Quran also presented us with:
1. Promises of the gifts Allah is willing to grant anyone who sets the intention to believe in and follow this guiding light;
2. Threats to whoever chooses willingly to step astray from it and causes themselves harm and spoils both their Dunya and Akhirah.

(all this, of course, comes with degrees and stages, it’s not just black and white)

“O mankind! There has come to you a good advice from your Lord (i.e. the Quran, ordering all that is good and forbidding all that is evil), and a healing for that in your breasts (disease of ignorance, doubt, hypocrisy and differences, etc.), – a guidance and a mercy for the believers. (explaining lawful and unlawful things, etc.) ”

Who is it for?

As we can see, the verse above starts with "O mankind!" meaning that the targeted audience of the Quran is the human species in full.

With that said and with its language and content proving that it couldn't have been written by a human, the Quran serves its purpose in every heart that reads and reflected upon it with an open mind and a thirst for the Truth wherever it might be.

“If the mankind and the jinns were together to produce the like of this Quran, they could not produce the like thereof, even if they helped one another.”(Surah Al-Isra, Verse 88)

“If the mankind and the jinns were together to produce the like of this Quran, they could not produce the like thereof, even if they helped one another.”(Surah Al-Isra, Verse 88)

Quran & Ramadan.

And this is what Ramadan offers, an opportunity to rekindle our bond with this miracle we’ve been gifted, Ramadan is the month the Quran came down and we spend a whole month celebrating its arriving and the eternity of its miracle.

And let’s note that out of all the miracles every prophet had, the Quran is the only miracle that is eternal, the miracle of its linguistics, content and instructions didn’t fade with the death of Prophet Muhammad PBUH, instead it lives on forever until the end of time as a torchbearer and an anchor to whoever chooses to find and submit to the Truth with an open mind and a clean heart.

"... شهر رمضان الذي أنزل فيه القرآن هدى للناس وبينات من الهدى والفرقان"

"The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur’an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion"

Now, how do we extract all this goodness for this book? you ask.

Befriend it.

What do we do with a friend?

we spend time with them,

we become familiar with them,

we love them

and we try to understand them and become familiar with their language.

So spend as much time with the Quran as you could, get addicted to reading it, listening to it, studying it, learning its language (because no translation can do justice to it, TRUST ME!),  asking about it ....and trust me the more effort you put in getting close to it, the closer and faster IT will come to you and bless your life with guidance and serenity!

And my last advice would be: ask Allah to help you understand it and live by it. It is Allah himself who advised us to do so when we don't see ourselves in the right place in Al-Kahf:

18:24 " وَاذۡكُرْ رَّبَّكَ اِذَا نَسِيۡتَ وَقُلۡ عَسٰٓى اَنۡ يَّهۡدِيَنِ رَبِّىۡ لِاَقۡرَبَ مِنۡ هٰذَا رَشَدًا‏ "
"And should you forget (and make such a statement), remember your Lord and say: 'I expect my Lord to guide me to what is nearer to rectitude than this.' "

Lights will guide you home fireflies ^.^
