Living With Less : The intro.
Who is Kaiss without Leila ? What is One Direction without Zayn Malik? What is winter without sweater? just like what is Kawtar without her looong shopping lists and frequent visits to the mall whenever she has a free time?
But here`s what happened: I found myself with a big amount of time recently that nor my room`s space nor my energy nor my parrents` bank accounts would allow me to spend it shopping ... so I had no other choice than filling up my time with other (free) activities and making more interesting achievments than getting my room and outfits on fleek (nothing huge though) ; but all this helped me discover a lot about myself ... But most importantly it made me realise that life has much more to it than just filling our houses and closets with unneccessary materialist things that only bring an ephemerial gratification . So yeah, I came to admit that I wasn`t shopping for the lack of clothes but rather for the lack of warmth in the heart & the lack of more vivid ,long lasting moments/ excperiences a.k.a. I was shopping for happiness.
The truth is , after spending a lot of free time on my own I came to realise that when it comes to living with less and minimalism it doesn`t only rely on owning less stuff ,it is based overall on putting to test everything around you from the huge amount of shirts to your beliefs , your relationships and the values you live by ...
So since these convictions sunk in my mind I started reconsidering everything around me and made some practical changes starting from shortening my shopping list and instead filling up the list of the things I wanna learn and experience , and also making a lot of decluttering in my closet, my room, my brain, my heart, my relationships, my digital life ... literally EVERYTHING ... and when I say declutter it doesn`t mean organising and finding room for everything , it actually means getting rid off everything unneeded, toxic, fake and negative .
Heck I`m not saying that now shopping is the last thing on my mind or that I`m 24/7 smiling and positivity is shining out of my face, but just the process and the first results tell me that I`m making the right thing by choosing to live with less... so here are some of its benefits:
- more time, money & energy : less organising + less shopping mall visits;
- living life to the fullest (invest in relationships, grow, discover , find purpose and passions...);
- less stress;
- freedom : you start owning what you have and not letting it own you;
- everything you own is beautiful;
- everything you have is good quality;
- feeling refreshed;
- more free space in your house means more space in your heart and brain;
- authenticity : everything you own reflects you and who you truly are ;
- increases creativity (because you get to use one thing for a lot of uses)
- being more present and focused on the here and now .
"You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don't make money your goal,instead pursue the thing you love doing and do them so well that people can't take their eyes off you." ~ Maya Angelou
Let me know if you agree with all of this or not and tell me if you think that it`s time to stop mistaking `I want` for `I need` and start living a simple life where we`re not competing with our neighbours` last purchases!
